Marie Wetmore, Life and Career Coach, Teaches You Meditation for Stress Management

Stress has serious effects on our physical wellness, our emotional well-being, and the day-to-day quality of our lives. As much as 80% of visits to doctors are due to stress-related issues. Stress seriously affect our personal relationships and also makes our experience of ourselves unpleasant. When we are under stress, it’s difficult for us to practice good self-care.

Through stress management and relaxation, you improve your life in large and small ways. If you’d like to counteract many negative consequences of stress, relaxation works wonders.

Furthermore, the power of meditation is beginning to be recognized in the scientific community. According to the Mayo clinic, meditation helps you get a new perspective, the more self-aware, manage stress, focus on the present, handle unpleasant emotions, and even helps with certain health and emotional issues.

I hope this introduction is helpful and enjoy the podcast!

Be a Lion Podcast: How to Get Good Sleep and Have More Energy

I just released another Be Lion life coaching podcast (yes, it’s free: download the MP3 audio here or visit the Be a Lion podcast page on iTunes).

This podcast episode is centered on that powerful strategy for boosting your energy levels, improving your mood, finding happiness, having better focus and improving your attention span, improving your relationships, and generally making you an awesome, successful person: how to get good sleep!

Of course, this is a life coaching podcast, so the overarching goal is always to inspire to follow your passion and fulfill your purpose in life – but you know you cannot achieve that without having the energy to persevere. And that means you need to get a good night’s sleep.

In this cast, I discuss the benefits of sleep, pointing out how sleep loss affects us in so many ways, especially if we lose so much that we’re always tired.

I get strategic, discussing ways we can change our habits and patterns to improve your sleep. Here are some of the life coaching strategies I discuss in detail (think of them as natural sleeping remedies – the best sleep aid is having good habits):

  • how to manage your cell phone and email at night, so you can decompress and get to bed in time to get good sleep.
  • how to manage stress: I share ideas to help you reduce your stress levels and relax for bed
  • how to prevent stress (changing the causes and conditions of your stress rather than just coping with them)
  • create a soothing, settling environment (turning down the lights, etc.)
  • create a night time routine that sets the tone for a good night’s sleep
  • changing habits around TV, especially what you choose to view in the hours before bed
  • keeping your bed for sleeping and… Well, you know. Yet, it’s Pavlovian – if you want to get good sleep, you want sleep and relaxation to be the strongest associations with your bed
  • trimming caffeine use
  • creating a positive domino effect in your life, starting early in the day so you set yourself up to get to sleep.

I thought I’d point out that the reason I share as many practical strategies that possible is that I know that while inspiration is incredibly important to living your dreams, it will only get you so far. You need strategies and a plan, combined with inspiration, if you really find your passion, and fulfill your purpose in life. Hopefully better sleep will solve a big piece of the puzzle for you: who knows what you can accomplish when you boost your energy levels!?!

Thanks for listening, and I love hearing your comments, questions, and ideas.

In this episode Marie challenges you to change your attitude about happiness. Many people fear pursuing their own happiness because doing so seems like an act of negative selfishness. In fact, building a happy foundation in your life is a generous act.

Marie asks you to question your assumptions about happiness and unhappiness… Does being unhappy make you more of a positive influence on other people? Does it give you the emotional strength and fortitude to be peaceful, calm, and a source of energetic support for others? When you are unhappy are you thinking about the needs and well-being of other people?

No. When most people are unhappy, they aren’t thinking about others, they are more focused on their own problems, needs, and what seems to be going wrong in their lives. Unhappy people tend to need more support from others, rather than being able to give it.

On the other hand, happy people are not centered around their own needs. In fact, finding happiness frees you to be available for others. We all understand how unhappiness can be exhausting, whereas happiness brings energy and enthusiasm. And happiness is energizing. With the energy and enthusiasm that comes from your own happiness, you will have the ability to be a true resource for others.

In fact, creating a foundation of happiness within allows you to take action on your compassion and higher values. Meaning, if you want to be an activist or to take practical action on issues, happiness will energize you and help you persevere in these goals.

In sum, you will be a better help to other people. It’s worth pursuing!

They discuss frequently asked questions about divorce mediation, starting with a common fear expressed by couples who wonder if the fact that they are arguing means they cannot use divorce mediation. He shares how the process actually can help people learn to communicate better and work together more effectively. This is especially important for divorcing couples with children, who will need to make parenting decisions for many years to come. They discuss the role of an attorney in divorce mediation. Lee also discusses scenarios in which divorce mediation is not appropriate or would not be a good fit for participants. He also touches on the all important issue of what happens after mediation.

Be a Lion Podcast: Ep 25 – Understanding Divorce Part 1

This is the first of two episodes.

Click to download or listen to the podcast  or subscribe in itunes  or paste this into your podcatcher http://www.lionssharecoaching.com/podcast/be_a_lion.rss AND remember to check out Marie’s Coaching webpage

In this two-part podcast, Life Coach Marie Wetmore and divorce mediator Lee Chabin discuss divorce and the various ways it affects divorcing couples, their children, and their loved ones. Lee talks about how people going through divorce can practice self-care as well as how loved ones can be supportive and helpful in the process.

Although there are many different reasons for divorce, there are common experiences that occur during the divorce process. Lee talks about the different types of divorce (such as litigation, mediation, collaborative divorce, and even divorce without a lawyer or do-it-yourself divorce). He discusses how litigation and mediation affect different aspects of people’s lives, including financial stress and cost, anger, emotional stress, and amount of time in the divorce process.

Lee talks about the various professionals that get involved during litigated divorce – possibly including psychologists, financial professionals, and sometimes child protective services. He discusses how divorce mediation can be a more simple divorce process, with outside professionals playing a different role that is more in the hands of the couples rather than the courts. He also explains the role divorce mediators play in the process.

Lee explains how the divorce settlement agreement is handled in the mediation process.

Lee discusses how participants in the divorce can take care of themselves when coping with this difficult life transition. He also talks about how loved ones can offer love and support to couple that are going through divorce.
